UPDATE:

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is done playing baseball for the next month.

Representing the MLB All-Stars in Japan, Cano was hit in the right foot by a pitch during Saturday’s game against Samurai Japan. It resulted in a non-displaced fracture of Cano’s pinkie toe and he will need three-to-four weeks to recover, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

ORIGINAL:

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano took a fastball off his right foot while batting in the top of the seventh inning in Saturday’s Game 3 against Samurai Japan. He walked slowly to first base, and after manager John Farrell and trainers talked to him, he left for pinch runner Jose Altuve. In the game, Japan used four pitchers in a combined no-hitter against the MLB All-Stars. They won the game 4-0 and lead the series 3-0.

MLB Network’s Paul Severino said during the ninth inning of the broadcast that Cano left the stadium early for X-rays on his right toes. Cano limped out of the Tokyo Dome before the game ended.

The injury did not not appear too serious as Cano needed no help walking off the field. The move to take him out of the ball game is more precautionary as MLB.com’s Joey Nowak stated. It was the second pitch of the at-bat off Japan’s Yuki Nishi.

Cano just completed his first year of a 10-year, $240-million contract he signed with the Mariners last December after playing nine years with the New York Yankees. He has career totals of .310/.358/.499, along with 218 HR, 904 RBI, and 5.15 average WAR. His power was down in Seattle this year (14 HR), but he still hit .314, drove in 82 runs, and had a WAR of 6.4.
